Custom Solutions in Enterprise Tech Stacks
Jace Anderson, Director of Accounts, gives us a little insight and makes a case for building custom software solutions for businesses with complex needs.
Large businesses, like telecoms, have complex tech stacks. Their technical architecture is often made up of legacy systems, homebrew programs and specialized platforms. Trying to fit a Software as a Service, or SaaS, product into that big, complicated tech stack to take advantage of new technology is often more trouble than it is worth. That’s just one reason to consider custom solutions. Let Jace tell you more in the video below.

Hey! I'm Jace here at Acro Commerce, making a short video today to make a case for custom Solutions fitting into Enterprise Tech Stacks.
You know, at Acro Commerce, we see all different types of solutions, from Enterprise level to ancient Legacy Technologies, custom builds and SaaS (Software as a Service) solutions. But in reality, it's usually a mix of all of those techs. When we're talking about it, there's really no wrong choice; it's all about how you and your business are leveraging the technology you choose.
However, when we do get into Enterprise SaaS solutions, I do want to make a case for some custom-built technology in there. We see companies leveraging these custom-built solutions to innovate faster, reduce overhead and really future-proof their tech stack.
What we usually see with Enterprise Tech is that it's very complex. It's difficult to configure, much less just to manage. And when dependencies arise, this usually means a big change, with a lot of people involved. Adding anything or removing anything affects workflows. There are dependencies and usually multiple people and multiple weeks of planning and development. This can often result in teams or groups of people dedicated to just that system, and sometimes it's in the tens of people. And you know, specialized talent in areas of technology typically aren't that cheap.
All right, given you know I work for a development agency and a Commerce accelerator, maybe I'm a little bit biased, but I don't believe that many of these Enterprise SaaS solutions are future-proof in the design. Meaning they don't allow for that agility to adapt to business situations and the changing business environment (because we all know how fast that happens now).
I'm not sure if these points will convince you, but I just hope that they give you a chance for a second thought before considering that one-size-fits-all subscription solution to tackle all your problems with one platform.
At the end of the day, I know a lot of these systems are crucial to many of the world's biggest businesses, but I do believe a deeper look makes the case for custom-built solutions in many scenarios.
That's all for me today. I hope you enjoyed my little rant. Until next time, I'm Jace from Acro Commerce, checking out.
