What’s your favourite thing about being a Project Manager

  • Tech and Industry Learning
Embracing new technologies and industry trends fuels innovation, enabling better project strategies and solutions. It's an exciting opportunity to stay ahead and make informed decisions.
  • Team Collaboration
Working with a diverse team fosters creativity and personal growth. Guiding and motivating team members creates a positive culture, improving project outcomes and stronger relationships.

What is the greatest challenge a PM can help a client overcome?

Helping clients navigate through uncertainty. This can come in many different forms, but some of the topics we see most in our day-to-day at Acro can be:

  • Scenario Planning
One approach to handling uncertainty is scenario planning. A PM can help clients create multiple scenarios based on different assumptions and potential outcomes. By considering a range of possibilities, clients can make informed decisions and be better prepared for any eventuality.
  • Change Management
Uncertainty often accompanies significant changes within an organization. A PM can guide clients through change management processes, helping them navigate employee transitions, technology implementations, or structural adjustments while minimizing disruption.
  • Monitoring and Tracking
A PM employs tracking and monitoring tools to keep projects on course. By closely monitoring key performance indicators and project milestones, the PM ensures timely interventions in case of deviations caused by uncertainty.
  • Contingency Planning
PMs help clients develop contingency plans to address potential disruptions. These plans outline specific steps to take in case of unexpected events, reducing the impact of uncertainty on the project's success.
  • Flexibility and Adaptability
Uncertainty often requires adapting plans in real time. A PM makes agile adjustments, reallocating resources, and modifying project strategies as new information emerges, helping the client stay nimble in a dynamic environment.

What are some risks people often don't consider when starting a project?

The most common hurdles we see as project managers are:

  • Scope Creep
Scope creep refers to the gradual and often uncontrolled expansion of a project's scope. This occurs when new features, requirements, or changes are added to the project after the initial planning phase without proper evaluation or adjustment of the project timeline, resources, and budget. This risk can lead to delays, increased costs, and a diminished focus on the project's original goals.
  • Resource Availability
Resource availability risk arises when the necessary personnel, tools, equipment, or technology required for the project are not readily accessible or properly allocated. Insufficient or unavailable resources can lead to project delays, decreased productivity, and compromised project quality.
  • Budget Constraints. vs. Feature Requests
Balancing budget constraints with feature requests can be challenging, especially when stakeholders continuously request additional features they didn't initially plan for. This risk can lead to overspending, missed deadlines, and potential stakeholder dissatisfaction.

What is something unique you bring to the role?

  • Positive Attitude
I bring an unwavering positive outlook that fosters motivation, problem-solving, and team cohesion, even in challenging situations.
  • Collaborative Spirit
I thrive on working alongside others, valuing diverse perspectives, and promoting open communication to achieve shared goals.
  • Humour and Connection
With a knack for timely humour, I create a lighthearted atmosphere that eases tension, builds rapport, and enhances team dynamics.

Just for fun
