Project Teams at Acro Commerce - Part One

Hi, my name is Gabrielle. I'm a project manager here at Acro Commerce, and I'm here to shed some light on Project teams.

A software project team is a group of individuals who collaborate to plan, develop, test and deliver a software product or system. 

The roles within a software project team can vary depending on the product size, complexity, and specific requirements. In smaller projects, team members may wear multiple hats and perform multiple roles. In larger, more complex projects, additional specialized roles may be needed.

At Acro, each team works together on a defined set of projects. Keeping the team members on a project team consistent has several advantages, and here are some reasons why:

Enhanced collaboration: Effective communication and collaboration among team members is essential for the success of any software project. Teams often build stronger working relationships and better communication over time. Team members become familiar with each other's strengths, weaknesses and working styles, making it easier to collaborate effectively. This leads to improved teamwork and efficiency. 

Specialization: Teams can specialize within their roles, focusing on specific areas of expertise. The specialization can lead to higher quality work and increased productivity as team members become more skilled and efficient within their respective roles. 

Better knowledge sharing: Teams have more opportunities to share knowledge and best practices within the team. Over time, team members will develop a deep understanding of different projects, domains, and technologies being used, leading to better problem-solving and decision-making. 

Consistency: Maintaining consistency in a project, vision, goals and processes. This consistency can be essential for achieving project milestones and objectives, as team members best understand the project's long-term goals and can align their efforts accordingly. 

Faster rampups: New members can learn from experienced team members more effectively. They benefit from existing teams' knowledge and guidance, reducing the time that it takes for new members to become fully productive. 

Improved accountability: Team members tend to take more ownership and accountability for their work. They feel a stronger sense of responsibility for the project's success.

Reduce coordination overhead and predictable performance:  When working with the same team consistently, there is less need for constant reestablishment of processes and coordination among the team members. This can save time and reduce overhead, allowing for teams to focus on their work. The team's performance can be more predictable because you have a better understanding of the team dynamics, capabilities and you have historical performance. This predictability is essential for project planning. 

Team cohesion: Working with the same team members over time often leads to stronger team cohesion and a sense of camaraderie. This improves team morale and job satisfaction, which, in turn, positively impacts productivity and creativity. 

As you can see, projecct teams can be a lot to unpack. But there are a lot of benefits to working this way.
